A hard include, not a soft exclude

Excluding R and TV-MA still leaves PG-13 and TV-14 in the pile. For young children that is the wrong default. This preset uses include mode on a single chip: Kids. On Umami Rate that chip maps to G, TV-Y, TV-G, and TV-Y7. PG, PG-13, TV-14, R, and TV-MA drop out.

Services stay open so you can see which app actually has the title. That is useful when one kid profile is on Disney+ and another night is a Netflix kids show — you are filtering ratings first, storefront second.

Limits you should know

TV-Y7 can include action and mild scare moments. G-rated films still differ widely in pace and theme. Missing or NR ratings will not match the Kids include list, so some gentle titles may be absent until TMDB has a rating we recognize. Always skim the title detail before you press play.

This is not a signed-in kids profile on a streamer. It will not block playback inside Netflix or Disney+ if someone opens those apps directly. It only shapes the discovery list in Umami Rate.

How to use it

Open the preset and browse or search. If the list is too small, you may be over-filtering by service — clear service chips. If it is too broad, add a genre (animation, family) or lock media to TV. Share the link with caregivers so they do not have to rebuild the chips on a phone.

FAQ

Is PG included?
No. Kids-only is G / TV-Y / TV-G / TV-Y7. Use the Disney+ PG-13 guide or add PG in the app if you want that range.
Why is a gentle show missing?
Include mode hides titles whose rating is unknown or outside the Kids chip. Check the title on the streamer, or switch to exclude R and TV-MA if you prefer a wider net.
